Community Development

Information on CHE

What is CHE?

Community Health Education (CHE) is a wholistic ministry strategy that seamlessly integrates evangelism, discipleship, and church planting with community health and development.

Apakah CHE ?

CHE workers strive to obey everything that Jesus commanded, including both the Great Commission and the Great Commandment. Through CHE ministries, people become followers of Jesus, and whole communities are lifted out of cycles of poverty and disease.

CHE ministers trust God to transform beliefs and change behavior so that his peace, justice, compassion, and righteousness are reflected in the life of the communities they serve.

  1. Development not relief ( Perkembangan bukan bantuan)
  2. Sustainable ( Mampan)
  3. Teaching vs doing for them (Ajar bukan buat untuk mereka)
  4. Integration of spiritual & physical ( Holistik)
  5. Prevention vs cure ( Pencegahan bukan perubatan)
  6. Mature Christian Leadership ( Kepimpinan Kristian yang matang)
  7. Community ownership ( Pemilikan komuniti)
  8. Reproducible ( Pelipat-gandaan)

Three Phase Training of Trainers (TOT)

The training process is broken into three, one-week phases with several months between each phase to allow trainees to practice what they have learned.

Tiga Fasa Training of Trainers ( TOT)

Phase I Focuses on development philosophy and how to start a CHE Program. Spiritually, the emphasis is on evangelism.

Phase II Focuses on developing teaching materials, methods, and curriculum. Spiritually, the emphasis is on follow-up of new believers.

Phase III Focuses on evaluation, project expansion, multiplication, and management. Spiritually, the emphasis is on discipleship.

Training of Trainers I (TOT I)

A week-long course, consisting of 28-35 hours ( 5 days ) of training, designed to equip Christian leaders and organizations to implement their own integrated ministry of community health evangelism. Those who attend a TOT I will be equipped to set up a CHE program and to train CHE volunteers for work in their communities.

What are the benefits of being part of the Global CHE Network?
The network provides a large pool of resources from which all members draw.  By coordinating our efforts with a determination to build up each other’s ministries and expand the CHE movement, we gain access to ideas and resources. We also create new opportunities to do together what no one of us could achieve alone.

Information on Sabah

Sabah has the highest incidence of poverty in Malaysia. In Sabah, households with a combined monthly income of below RM1,050 are designated as “poor”, while the “absolute poor” have a monthly income of less than RM630. The definition set for Sabah is less stringent than the poverty line set for Peninsular Malaysia which is below RM760 a month, even though the cost of living is much higher in Sabah compared to Peninsular Malaysia.

According to the latest statistics, the poverty rate has dropped from 23% in 2004 to 19.7% in2010.  This means that one out of 5 people in Sabah is still living below the poverty line, compared to the national average of 3.8% in Malaysia.
